AI training for doctors
AI in Medicine for Doctors: What Should You Be Able to Do After the Course?
By MedXchange Ā· Ā· 2 min read
Before you enrol in an AI course, ask one question:
āWhat will I be able to do myself?ā
Ask to see the work. A research analysis a doctor completed. A platform an alumnus built. A project that continued after the last class.
For a practising doctor, that is where AI education becomes useful.
You already have clinical questions. You may have a departmental dataset waiting for analysis, an idea for teaching residents, or a workflow that wastes time every day. The purpose of learning AI is to give you the skills to work on those problems.
Bring a question from your own work
Perhaps you want to understand which patients in your dataset had longer hospital stays. Perhaps you want to organise a specialty teaching resource. Perhaps you have been carrying an idea for a healthcare application for years.
That question gives your learning direction.
At MedXchange, we teach doctors live. You work through the task yourself, with mentors available to explain, review and help when you get stuck. One-to-one support gives us time to work on the questions specific to your project.
You need room to ask why something happened. Why did the code fail? Why did the graph change? Does the output answer the question you started with?
Running code is one step. Understanding what you have done is the work.
An output needs your judgement
A chart can look impressive and still tell the wrong story. An application can open successfully and still need substantial testing.
Your medical training matters here. You understand the patients, the setting and the decisions behind the data. As you build technical skills, you also learn where to question the output and where to seek further review.
We want our doctors to develop that confidence: the ability to build, inspect and explain their work.
Look beyond the final class
Our alumniās projects include Critical Care Buddy, Ultrasonography.in by Dr Swati Khirsagar, and CardiacTools and ERAS work by Dr Saipriya.
These are projects you can explore when considering what you want to create.
Your ambition may be different. Bring it to us.
